1. Hermes and PPSW

Much of the last 6 weeks has been spent evaluating SuSE 9.1 and devising AutoYaST hands off installation scripts for all of the machines in the Hermes+PPSW cluster. The first next generation PPSW systems (currently running SuSE 9.0) have been rolled out and are running as smtp.hermes to provide SMTP AUTH and TLS. FANF gave a Techlinks presentation to cover visible changes.

The meeting wished to record its appreciation of the smooth transition from old to new Hermes.

2. Decomissioning IMAP and POP on CUS

Around 350 people are left using IMAP and POP against CUS: around half of the original number. The rate of people moving to Hermes seems to have dropped off: a second round of reminders has started.

3. Purging spam folders

Automatic purging of messages in the spam folder still needs to be rolled out. An announcement is required; one will be drafted and promulgated as soon as possible.

Webmail user interface options have been added to allow people to change the number of days that messages are retained or disable the purge entirely.

4. Mailing lists

Major discussion to start at the next MDCM.

5. Any other business

This year's bulk cancellation of departing users is scheduled for 12th July.
