1. Hermes and PPSW

There have been no further system hangs on the Cyrus servers since the firmware was upgraded on the RAID controllers at the start of December. Disk use on Hermes has been fairly static over the Christmas break.

2. Cammail

People running mail servers which were targets of the old cam.ac.uk system have been warned that the existing cammail command will be removed over the summer. An interface will be provided to allow these people to find out about @cam addresses which point to their own mail system.

A vestigial cammail service will be provided for the 2hermes fixfwd utility which runs on Hermes, for the benefit of Engineering users who are moving to Hermes.

3. Long form aliases

Long form aliases are a fairly simple proposition for email as PPSW will do most of the work. Some discussion is still taking place regarding long form aliases for Web pages.

4. The dangers of forwarding email offsite

The Hermes Webmail page has (finally) been updated to add a warning about redirections to remote systems.

5. CARET groups project

CARET asked for a mail domain for a service which they are planning intended for University wide use. It was agreed that if and when a pilot service became available a name would be assigned. CARET have agreed to use "@caret.cam.ac.uk" email addresses for the testing phase.
