1. Private Addresses on the CUDN

It was noted that the mail servers are now set up to accept and relay mail from CUDN private (RFC1918) addresses.

2. Webmail interface

The Webmail interface is now averaging around 5,500 logins a day. The code has been released, but as far as we know no-one else is using it yet.

3. Hermes and PPSW

New hardware for PPSW has recently arrived, after a great deal of organizational struggle. The old Sun PPSW machines have been removed and the physical arrangement of the other machines has been changed to make space for the new racks, with room for future expansion. However, networking is not yet sorted out, including the new gigabit uplink and cabling within the cluster.

David Carter has made significant progress with adapting Cyrus for Son-of-Hermes, fixing its namespace handling for interoperability with Pine and adding a two-phase expunge of deleted messages and mailboxes as a replacement for the NetApps' snapshot facility. The general aim is to be ready for initial testing of a prototype system early in 2003.

4. Attachment filter on Hermes

Implementation of this has been delayed by the hardware acquisition problems mentioned above. However, Tony Finch now has an ex-PWF computer from the Old Music Schools for testing software under load using duplicates of real traffic siphoned off PPSW.

5. User Agents

Pine 4.50 is expected out soon, so we are planning an upgrade in December.
