$Cambridge: hermes/doc/cyrus_mailstore/migration,v 1.6 2004/06/18 12:49:00 dpc22 Exp $ Stages ====== 1) Set up test Canvas, Hermes-1, Hermes-2 systems. 2) Hermes-1: NFS mount user home directories from black, gray Generate NIS/LDAP maps from data on prism (user admin/pwmake) Compile and test various software (PINE, Exim) PROBLEM: UID and GIDs assigned on old Hermes conflict with standard Linux ones See ./remapping for procedure. 3) Move users off Sun hardware. All access to user home directories on NetApps via NFS from hermes-v 4) Canvas general configuration Do everything other than useradmin scripts 5) Useradmin scripts: Ask cj10 for some fake data for testing purposes Use cyrus-2 as test target server. Scripts which run as root on hermes-1 will have root access to NetApps. Use parallel quota regimes on NetApps, hermes-1 and 2 so that it doesn't matter where the data lives. 6) Roll out new user admin scripts 7) Migrate /shared/data/lists and /shared/data/domains from gray. 8) Migrate user data from NetApps: See "User data migration" below for details of one possible transparent migration. Given that we can move 11 GBytes of data in less than an hour, it might be simpler to just book a dedicated period. 9) Shut down prism and the NetApps. Further Details =============== See ./migration_nfs for details of NFS data migration
